Giulia Maria Beretta - Ceramics

Here i am, back to where it all began. Back to {vacant for at least four years} and back to Locarno, my once hated now beloved home town. New site, new studio, new life ... and the best part is: new work!

"Come and visit again in a few weeks. Day by day my journal will lead you through the doors of my pink garden studio, where new pieces will emerge to my own surprise."

There is still plenty to do {as it goes with new beginnings} so let's start with a successful collaboration being launched as i write. I am proud to introduce my exclusive designs for Swiss non profit organisation Helvetas. The stackable boxes Jock and Kitty {inspired by Japanese lacquer bento boxes} have been produced by a family pottery in Vietnam, under fair trade conditions. The 8 bowls available and 2 lids can be mixed & matched, generating all sorts of funny faces in the tradition of the cadavres éxquis, a popular game played by the surrealists. The streamlined designs are intricately hand painted in cobalt blue by a skilled craftsman {the only person in the workshop with a perfect brush stroke}. Simple no-nonsense functional ware, with a healthy dose of nonsense.

"The porcelain pieces are available for the Swiss market on Fairshop Helvetas. For international customers they will be available here, on my future web-shop. Please pop by again soon, or write to me for further information."
"A selection of the collection will be on show at the patisserie Grand Café Al Porto in Lugano { 7-23 April } as part of the design exhibition Artificio 2017."
